EPOXY vs PU / JS HYFI Monsta 2020 Review - WOOLY TV #23
Great videos. Thank you for getting us the great intel!
Im tossing up between this or the schooner for better bigger surf want something that loves the barrel but can turn hard.
Would love to see a review of the regular Seaside.
Hi mate, im thinking to buy Xero Gravity, what do you think is better to learn turns 6'8" or 6'6" Easy Rider? Thanks.
The shorter one would be easy but just make sure you are getting a board with enough volume for you.
how come these top shapers are not using XPS in their boards
Hi mate, I don' think its available in Australia yet.
@@WoolyTV I've been making XPS Blanks fot the past 20 years find it so much more alive than EPS
Yo Wooly, have you or anyone you know ridden a Greedy Beaver (talkin surfboard 😂) in anything other than timbertek?
@@klaiejah sorry I haven’t ridden one.
@@WoolyTV lol, I didn’t think it was your thing 😂but you coulda had a gumby mate who had one 😂
@@klaiejah we have sold a lot of them at work but most have been TimberTek
@@WoolyTV Cheers 🙏
Those sh**ty waves in WA look very fun and inviting for gloomy nz winter
Yeah its a long winter over in NZ bro
Five fin box... Keep it G
Always!
looks like a really fun board for small soft waves. also, looks really good for someone needing to slow up their surfing to work on turns, get in early and plane on softer waves to create opportunities. Might be perfect for my waves actually. :) Thanks Wooly for the review.
I really enjoyed this one. Whats your favourite grovel board?
@@WoolyTV It used to be the old Baked Potato but they don't make that anymore and mine fell apart. :( I love my Mashup and the Bobby Quad. too many to choose from, LOL.
Have you surfed Flat Earth? It's my all-road, HPSB. Would the FRK+ make a good difference on 7ft waves? xrs
The FRK+ will handle and out perform the FE in overhead surf. ruclips.net/video/UN9PDRkxyso/видео.htmlsi=ak88KqnPEiVVW5mo

Insane review and surfing off the frothmeter!!
Frothing hard
Hey Wooly...Now you've checked out the Flame Fish...Flame Fish or Baron Flyer for your one goto groveller for summer slop???
I think I would go the Flame Fish for real grovel. I loved the BF but I think the FF will out grovel it! Plus you have more fin options with the 5 plugs.
@@WoolyTV Thanks for your time and the awesome reviews....You are the BEST and most informed mate. It's super-appreciated.
Been watching this and I can say, your fifty fifty needs work and I’d like to see a tray flip or double kick flip somewhere in there. Be better then the gap!
@@franklinviele2399 mate I can barely do a kickflip
Would you pick this 9ver the JS Flyer you rode?
In super small stuff the SP will win, but I really like the way I surfed on the FF, more like a performance board.
@@WoolyTV cool. Thanks for the input.
Think you might have found your new volume 😅 you made surfing that look so easy 🙌
@@reubenbacon9156 for a groveller this is perfect volume/length for me
You aussies are so fortunate. What you call crappy surf would be borderline epic in so cal. Pealing peaks running all the way down the beach. Yew!! I was speaking about the first 2 spots you were surfing. Board looks good under your feet.
@@rodbarrett1581 yeah I did have some good waves to test the board out in as well as some junk. And I always watch Trestles and which I had a wave like that!
Do you prefer this or the Sub Zero with the same construction?
Ok just heard your final comments about the sub zero. Should have finished the review before asking!
Yes, I prefer it over the Sub Xero
I’m thinking of this board (flaming fish) or the Xero Hyfi. I watched your review of the Xero and you rip that in small - medium waves. Which board would you prefer for every day (not good) conditions?
Yew..lov me Tractors....gotta ask do you or anyone use or have used fcs sharkband..
@@FrankTankFlinns I haven’t used one but I know we’ve sold a lot through the shop.
Wooly, how did it go vs the sweet potato.
@@jamescollingham9172 it’s more manoeuvrable than the SP and goes on rail easier but the SP will out grovel it in really small stuff.
Thanks, makes sense :)
How does this compare to the Baron Flyer ?
@@martinvelezmoro7250 BF has more pinched rails and obviously only has the twin option. The FF has the option to run as thruster/twin/2 + 1 with the 5 boxes. The FF will out grovel the BF but the BF will handle bigger waves and you can turn sharper on it.
Thanks !! I order the BF , can’t wait , great review 👍🏽
@@martinvelezmoro7250 I loved the BF when I reviewed it, you can slice through turns.
@@martinvelezmoro7250 if you haven’t seen it already, check the BF review. I rode both at one of the right handers so you can really compare the way they ride by watching both.
I did ! That’s why I decided to go for the BF , thanks to you 👍🏽
Thanks for a great review Wooly. Definitely a board I’ll consider.
@@martialartscenterforhealth7143 it’s a lot of fun
Wow, a sh***y day in WA is quite different to the UK haha. Great review, Wooly!
@@mrnosy1 don’t worry we get some shitty days - most of the summer is windy and small.
How quick does it pick up speed! Very fun looking ride.
She's a keeper!
This one vs the Bobby Quad?
For me its this one over the Bobby Quad.
Great review Wooly
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
Yeah tks wooly for one more awesome review
Thanks for watching!
Just bought a 5'11". I'm 73kg/160 and 61 yr old. I use quads in chest and above, but twin for smaller. I've paddled in small 1-2 just to see how small I could go with it, and have to say it was faster paddling and surfing than my 5'11" Dominator II (34L) Similar rocker profile except the S Boss has 1cm more rocker in the tail...must be the double concave that gives it the extra paddle in power. The rails have great hold and definitely good for overhead. Most surprising though, was how good it went in waist high. (not that I normally would bother in that size unless desperate) My only complaint is my big feet hanging off the side of that pulled in tail.
Yeah it goes great. Its the wide nose and area under the chest that make it such a good paddler.
Great review, complete with a warning that too much potato could give you a little fa*t!🤣
@@Canaryisland1 don’t want to spoil it but I was talking about all the seaweed in my hair and the guys that edit the clips thought it would be more fun to make a fart noise 😝
Great review Wooly , board looks like lots of fun !
@@surfgeek yeah I’ve kept this one in my quiver.
amazing! have you tried using a RIKT? I think you would love it.
Not yet
hi wooly mate did you prefer the flame fish or the sweet potato in tiny grovelly surf?
@@SB-vh9bs I prefer the Flame Fish as it’s a little bit more like a performance groveller - if there is such a thing!
@@WoolyTV thanks mate legend
The review is awesome and thé level too 👌🤙⚡️
🙏
Libtech vs Js carbon
I’ve never used a Libtech but from memory they are a lot heavy than the carbon.
ПОСМОТРИТЕ ФИЛЬМ ...НА ГРЕБНЕ ВОЛНЫ ..
Great review. Thanks Wooly.
🙏
a good board for Bali 🤟🏻 !?
Yes it sure would be.
Which one would you keep Seaside and beyond or js big barron?
For me it’s the Big Baron. I did like the S&B and if I was surfing a lot of point breaks it would be perfect but I find the BB fast and manoeuvrable so I can surf it more like a short board.
Thx for this awesome review and level surfing 🙌 What size do you like best? Best regards
6’1” x 20” x 2 5/8” - 33.6L
Yo wooly can you do the a review on the boss up!!!
It’s on the cards this year sometime. I have a few to get through before I will get to the Boss Up 🤙
Is a 7”6 baron a good beginner board for first timer?? I’m 140 pounds 5”6 male.
Depends what you're riding now? But yes it would be good.
Hey wooly great vid. Would you rather the dominator 2 or the mash up? I’ll be using it for similar surf size in Sydney mainly beaches
The Mash Up suited me better and will grovel better than the D2. I liked the D2 in head high plus better
No e waves at nyang nyang
Always terrible there :)
Gonna take lot more than a new board to make me surf like the goat.
Ha ha, me too!
Yeah wolly, it looks the lost sabotaj , a good wave board
It really lights up in good waves.
Thanks for the review
No problem 👍
Yew, picked up one of these after watching the review, and it absolutely flys! I really like the low rails, do you know of anything off the rack with a more standard shortboard outline with similar low rails. Also been riding more volume since I've been watching your reviews. I'm 90kg and riding 38 litres right now.
Foam is your friend! The JS Schooner has similar rails.
Cheers mate, you're a legend.
Loved the review. Have you tried the Boss Up ?
Not yet! It on the cards for a review this year.
So good Wooly! Have you had a chance at riding it with endorfins? Thoughts on the slater fins?
I didn’t use the Slater fins on this one but I do have a set of the twins, which I’ve used on a couple of other boards. They feel good 👍
I've got the 5'8. Im only 70kgs, 5'9. I found it a tricky board to figure out. It's fast, but feels "tippy" I think due to the v bottom. Tried lots of fins, thruster and quads. Wasn't really happy. Bought the endorphins medium. They seem to level the board out. Prefer it as a quad. Should have bought large fins as it can get a bit flighty on a decent 4ft wave. Still not sure where this board sits in my quiver. Probably the 3 - 4ft range
@SeaBean-zo1gl fair enough. I have the 5'8 and I'm 5'8 and 65kg. I bought the medium endorfins and later twins. I prefer the thruster for pivot and quads for that drive and projection. When it's under head high I go to the twin and trailer for speed. I've been riding it between 3-5ft and haven't found it flighty. I find it easy to "tip" when I'm trying to pump for speed...but I don't find it too loose or uncontrollable. I'm not actually sure on its upper limit! :)
@@SeaBean-zo1gl I also found there's only a tiny difference in size between medium and large endorfins...almost negligible...
@@mattyk112 good info mate. I won't splash out on the large then
Thanks for the great review! question: how did the board go in choppy/windy conditions? Although iv never ridden one myself, Iv heard that epoxy doesnt like chop, and where I surf there tends to be wind most days... Thanks man, keep up the great work!
Yeah I hear a lot of people saying that but I don’t have a problem with epoxy boards in the wind 💨 WA is always windy! The sessions at the start of the clip (in board shorts) was really windy side shore and it was fine 🤙
I guess let’s not make it a thumb, or squash tail? 🤦🏻♂️
Rounded pin?
